I recently started journaling the way you explained and I figured the exact same thing as you keeping no specific rule as to how to journal actually makes me wanna do it more. It’s freeing in a sense.
i recently heard madeline argy’s podcast about her journaling and i’ve been journaling since i was a teen but i wasn’t very consistent with it and my thoughts would be in different diaries (which thankfully i have traced and those loose pages remain with me in my memory box). i started getting consistent with it around 9th grade when i developed feeling for a boy lol and i use to write very actively about the events of my life and how i said “hi” to him lol.
during covid i got pretty inactive because i was on my phone or my laptop ALL THE DAMN TIME.
now i’m in uni and this year madeline argy has motivated me to be consistent and now YOU.
i want to be able to come back to these pages and see what being 20 felt like on a random monday.
your 20s are so transformative, and you can track and write down as much or as little as you want! of course there will be days where absolutely nothing happens, but even tracking your mood in your cycle can help you learn about yourself. that's the point of journaling, isn't it, to find a better understanding of yourself. i love madeline, and i feel honoured I was able to motivate you as well now! you'll be so glad to be able to look back on the mundane and the big stuff you've written down. <3
beautiful piece! i just started journaling again, (i'm a fellow non-native english speaker that writes in english!) and sometimes i forget that i'm not writing for an audience, just for myself, that no one will read this and i can be as honest as i feel like. Thank you for your little guide! i might borrow a prompt or two to help me with my self-trust issues, if that's alright! xo
I started journaling in English as a form of practice. I moved to the states and I needed to improve in the language so the best way for me was writing lol, and I absolutely love it. but I find it funny that I feel more comfortable writing in English instead of my mother tongue. love this post and found it pretty relatable! <3
thank you so much for your guide Hanna you might just bring me back to journaling next year. i also write in English a language that none of my family members speak. i read somewhere years ago that it's easier to write in a second language because it allows us to dissociate from our feelings, put a filter between us and the real word of our mother tongue... much to think about, yours always, Luce <3
how brilliant, luce, that's amazing. i think i can express myself even better in my second language, but your point makes sense, because the dissociating makes me feel as if i'm writing about myself from an outsider's point of view, as if i am a character and the narrator is analysing...
I've always found Journaling cathartic. I love the way you have written this piece as a helping tool for those who are just getting into Journaling. Great piece
this is exactly what i needed to inspire me to start journaling again - no rules! <3
You inspired me to journal more than I do. Did my first morning brain dump today actually.
I also love journaling and do it everyday. It's really the best thing and i loved reading this. Thank you so much for sharing this <3
thanks for reading :)

i completely agree with you Hannah i’m also much better at expressing myself in english than in my native language and that’s exactly the reason why
I love the phrase 'screaming in lowercase' so much I copied it out in my own journal to remember
my words in another journal… that’s so romantic! thanks for reading hehe

thank you!
You got this down pat 🙌. Thanks, you reminded me to get a new journal book. It's clockwork for you. The process works.
happy journaling! no rules, just use it how you need it <3
