What a great reminder of the love some (all, if we're lucky) of our friends give us unconditionally. They show us how much we deserve only the best things in life, even when we think we are not worthy. I adore this piece so much. Thank you for writing it.

i recently lost my best friend (she cut contact with me for reasons i still do not quite understand). and now i am sitting here with all this love to give and all this knowledge of her and all this knowledge of how she knew me and knew me like nobody else ever did before or might again. i felt your words in every fiber of my being. but i also felt the absence of knowing this, knowing what it‘s like to be known and loved, its absence tremors through my body without finding anything to attach to.

Hello dear. I have also lost my former best friend a while back and it was heartbreaking but it also seemed like a necessary end of a chapter. I have made even better friends since then, who this piece is now about, and so will you. Some people are not supposed to stay with us, and we do not get to understand all the reasons, but are left with the acceptance of loss. But you're not lost. You'll find a friend like that again, perhaps even better.

i should write one for my besties. they don’t know it, but they saved me my senior year of highschool. they are my lighthouse in a stormy sea, they are the compass that guides my soul. i am seen with them, and that’s enough.

Being a friend is something that is wonderful. Sex and relationships ruin that. The goal is to keep that friendship going. I had a friend. She was amazing. I kissed her. We were married. It took some time to get back to that friendship that started it all.

Did you eventually make it back to that friendship?

Yes we did. After we learned to be friends again our relationship blossomed into something wonderful.
