June, a list:
Cat visits! And was approached by other cats that were strangers… I believe now that cats can tell that I love them.
Stopping to take photos of pretty flowers and sunsets.
Making strawberry iced matchas at work with a friend.
Received my first Hirono Blind box from the Le Petit Prince Series, and I got the rose figurine! He now stands on my nightstand.
Tears, press, summer books, and a working espresso machine. More tales from the bookshop during its first month open here.
Enjoyed a lot of art – during Gallery night and a Cyanotype Finissage. I shall enjoy a lot more because art repeatedly grounds me and puts me back together, in a personal and creative way.
Sitting in a friend’s garden pool, making new pals.
Trying new foods, watching films I normally wouldn’t, listening to music I usually wouldn’t.
Books read:
Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson
Hunchback by Saou Ichikawa
The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer
The Lamb by Lucy Rose
Small Boat by Vincent Delecroix
From the writing desk:
FOE is in its editing stage. I feel like I’m rushing its release this year but I’m also just ready for it to be released. I have only three other projects I’m writing on at the same time… Eyeing October for FOE’s release.
I removed the paywall of my ‘On Writing’ series where I write about writing and share helpful notes. They’re all free for you to devour now. I’m always open for suggestions, if you have them.
Letting a friend beta-read a brand new project is just fuelling me to write more for the new book instead of solely focusing on editing FOE. I really have zero self-control.
I am a little scared: scared of surrendering completely because the next instant is the unknown. The next instant, do I make it? or does it make itself? We make it together with our breath. And with the flair of the bullfighter in the ring.
— ‘Água Viva’ (Clarice Lispector)
Such is true Love, which steals into the heart With feet as silent as the lightsome dawn That kisses smooth the rough brows of the dark, And hath its will through blissful gentleness
— ‘Love’ (James Russell Lowell)
Journaling prompts for July:
List three things in your space you’ve kept longer than you meant to—why are they still here?
Describe what “enough” felt like the last time you actually experienced it.
Pick one item in your home. If it had a secret life, what would it be doing when you’re not looking?
When was the last time you told someone “no” and felt powerful?
What’s a small, silent rebellion you commit daily? (Even if it’s just not replying right away.)
What do your current routines say about what you value? What would you like them to say?
Where are you hiding in plain sight?
Name something you miss that you also outgrew. What would it be like to visit, not return?
When you look in the mirror, what’s the first thing your eyes land on? How do you feel about that?
What is your most irrational summer fear?
List five things you’ll never do again—and whether you regret any of them.
